Family photo Canada day

Canada is a country in North America. Its ten provinces and three territories stretch from the Atlantic Ocean to the Pacific Ocean and north to the Arctic Ocean. This makes it the second largest country in the world in terms of area and it has the longest coastline in the world. Its southern and western borders with the United States are the longest binational land border in the world. Canada’s capital is Ottawa and its three largest metropolitan areas are Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver.

Present-day Canada has been continuously inhabited by indigenous peoples for thousands of years. Beginning in the 16th century, British and French expeditions explored the Atlantic coast and later settled there. As a result of various armed conflicts, France ceded almost all of its colonies in North America in 1763. With the union of three British colonies in North America by Confederation in 1867, Canada was established as a federal dominion with four provinces. This began a growth of provinces and territories and a process of increasing autonomy from the United Kingdom, culminating in the Statute of Westminster of 1931 and culminating in the Canada Act of 1982, which removed vestiges of legal dependence on the Parliament of the United Kingdom.

Tips from our experience

  • Uber is a good way to get around, but not at rush hour.
  • The bus is also still a good option. It is also super easy via Google Maps.
  • If you want to insure a car it is quite expensive but there are brokers or even the banks like TD where you can ask good. If you are here for a long time, you should get a driver’s license here.
  • If you’re looking for used or new stuff, it’s worth checking out Facebook Marketplace. there’s a lot of stuff on there.
  • An alternative is here still https://www.kijiji.ca/ where you should also look. for example trailer, cars or something.

Tips for camping

If you are traveling with a caravan or trailer here is a site with many dump stations, both free and paid, find them very useful.
Furthermore, it is very useful to register at RV Live Campgrounds to get an overview of the campgrounds.

Locomotion and accommodation

The first three weeks we are here at the AirBnb in Edmonton. We were warmly welcomed by the family and shown around.
They also helped us with the car which you bought. Because you should see how you get your money over here. If you take cash with you there is a bad exchange rate. and with transfers there are also limits and fees and it could take a little longer.

Edmonton and environs

Edmonton is the capital of the Canadian province of Alberta and is located on the North Saskatchewan River. The Fort Edmonton Park open-air museum is dedicated to the city’s past and includes an 1846 fort as well as streetscapes from around 1885, 1905, and 1920. Modern landmarks in the city include the Royal Alberta Museum, with exhibits on aboriginal culture and natural history, and the futuristic Art Gallery of Alberta, known for its collection of First Nations art.

Drumheller

Drumheller is a small town with 7982 inhabitants in Alberta, Canada. It is located about 110 km east of Calgary on the Red Deer River. It is known for the fossil discoveries of dinosaurs in the surrounding Red Deer River Valley. The fossils were discovered by Joseph Burr Tyrrell in 1884 and the Royal Tyrrell Museum of Palaeontology in Drumheller is named after him.

Calgary and environs

Calgary is a cosmopolitan metropolis with numerous skyscrapers in the western Canadian province of Alberta. The city owes its rapid growth to its status as the center of the Canadian oil industry. In addition, Calgary also cultivates its Western culture, especially with the annual Calgary Stampede in July, which has developed from a simple agricultural show into a huge festival with numerous rodeo events.
